Description	This collection contains materials related to Terrence Kaufman's research on the Nahuatl language varieties spoken in the Huasteca, a region of Mexico encompassing parts of San Luis Potosí, Veracruz and Tamaulipas states. Ethnologue assigns three ISO 639-3 codes to these language varieties: [nhw] Nahuatl, Western Huasteca [nhe] Nahuatl, Eastern Huasteca [nch] Nahuatl, Central Huasteca Kaufman collected these materials between 1983 and 1993. Most of the materials in this collection date from 1987 and 1990. Materials were collected in the following locations: Tamazunchale, San Luis Potosí Tancanhuitz, San Luis Potosí Mahuajo, Coxcatlán, San Luis Potosí Cuilonico, Coxcatlán, San Luis Potosí El Sabino, Coxcatlán, San Luis Potosí Tancocu, Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí Agua Fría, Chicontepec, Veracruz Los Ajos, Tantoyuca, Veracruz The bulk of the materials were given to AILLA by Terrence Kaufman for digitization and preservation in 2012. Some born-digital materials were given to AILLA beginning at that time. After processing, physical media was returned to Kaufman beginning in May 2018. The materials in this collection include 104 folders with 240 audio recordings and 292 documents.
